New blog series: The Wrench Log

feature_wrenchLog

Over the years, my blog has evolved into a handful of regular features. Mainly recommendations, significant new experiences, and lots and lots of the Ride Log. This season has been what sports fans would call a rebuilding year. I’ve spent far more time procuring and working on bikes than actually riding them. It’s been fun. It’s been unexpected. It’s been frustrating. I’ve written about some of these mechanical adventures, but I think it makes sense to spin these stories off into their own series. Thus is born the Wrench Log.

It’s been a desert around here

Apologies to regular readers. It’s been quite a while since I’ve had any new content here on NS.com. I’ve got stories I want to tell, but I’ve been both busy and distracted. It’s not an excuse, it just is what it is. Here’s what I’ve been up to:

Thanks for reading

I’ve got quite a few big things going on right now, but I’m pausing here to say thank you to everybody who reads me around the web, especially here on my blog. Thank you!

Technical difficulties

For the past few days I’ve been having a horde of trouble with my hosting company. They haven’t been able to keep their database servers running and that’s greatly effected this website.

Ride log: Ghosts In The Machine

4/15/2009 — With my Vespa at the vet overnight, I figured I’d extend my light rail travel from the day before and see the city. I caught a ride with The Mrs to her office and hopped on the train from there. She’d just passed her riding test with flying colors, so good scooter mojo was in the air. During the off peak times, it’s less than $2 for 2-1/2 hours of ride time. I rode the rail all the way …

Obligatory “It’s been a while” post

fallout-3

The neglect, it shames me. Fallout 3 has totally taken over my life and this blog has suffered for it. I’ve got site maintenance plus lots of writing to do, so it’s time to get back into it. I’m kicking myself for the neglect of this site, but that’ll improve here in the next few days and weeks. The biggest hiccup of late was the update to WP 2.7 and how it made my theme completely barf all over …

A lesson to us all

trolls

I really appreciate this video because it’s about a subject that really does matter: internet comments. One of the things that motivated me to start this blog in the first place was a string of really nasty comments in a conversation I was trying to have online. The future of using the internet is going to be tightly bound up in actually being yourself online. The days of anonymously spewing ad hominem bile at whoever you like without consequence are hopefully numbered. In the mean time, here’s a funny lesson on web etiquette.
